Master Reed was ten
when he started martial arts training at the
local YMCA. The art he began in was Judo, but
he soon lost interest in it after a friend
demonstrated some Tang Soo Do to him. So he took
private lessons for about six months, but his
training was cut short due to lack of money and
a move.
His training was
unfortunately on-again, off-again through 1979
owing to a number of additional relocations, and
included private lessons in Tae Kwon Do for six
months and Jeet Kune Do for one year.
In his last move in
1979 to San Jose, California he joined a Tang
Soo Do school and studied under Jeff Scott,
James Edwards and
Master Jeong Sook Lee, and has continued to
train in Tang Soo Do for the last 32 years.
He holds a
6th
Degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do and is
currently training under Grandmaster Ho Sik Pak,
founder of the Hwa Rang World Tang Soo Do
Federation, and is a member of its Technical
Advisory Committee. Further martial arts study
includes Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do and Kali/Escrima
under Chris Kent and Tai Chi Chuan.
