When his young son (Russell
Boon)
said he wanted to study "karate", Master Eddie
Boon took him to a local Tang Soo Do class run
by Master David Allerton
of the United Kingdom
Tang Soo (Soo Bahk) Do Federation, then under
Grandmaster Kang Uk Lee. Originally he intended
only to go along and accompany his son for his
first few lessons but he ended up staying,
eventually training six times a week and running
his own class in Middlesbrough.
Master Boon opened
the Boon Dojang in 2001 teaching the traditional
core values of Tang Soo Do as well as
incorporating elements from other styles such as
kyushu-jitsu and aikido.
Master Boon believes
Tang Soo Do is a martial art suitable for all
ages, male
and female and stresses the "moral"
aspect of the art so that the mind and body can
be developed simultaneously for the benefit of
society. He insists on high standards,
discipline and respect for others.
Master Boon also has
a 1st Dan grade in the Japanese sword art of
Iaido,
awarded by the British Kendo Association.
