Senior Master Marc A.
Sattler was born December 1, 1957. He gained an
interest in martial arts, as many others did,
through television and movies.
His first exposure to
martial arts was seeing Judo being practiced at the
local YMCA while waiting for a ride home from
swimming lessons. But the thing that really got him
to go to a local karate studio was when a classmate,
who was also a green belt, broke a board in art
class. Master Sattler was fascinated by this and he
went to watch his classmate’s karate class that very
same day. He liked it so much that he signed up
shortly thereafter.
Master Sattler began
his Tang Soo Do training in 1972 under Dr. Robert
E. Beaudoin. He attained his Cho Dan in 1976, and
received the rank of Sa Dan (4th) or
Master in 1987 through the World Tang Soo Do
Association.
Approximately 20
years later Master Sattler was introduced to Kwang
Jang Nim J. John St. James who is President and
Grandmaster of the Atlantic-Pacific Tang Soo Do
Federation. He was so impressed with Kwang Jang Nim
St. James, his traditional style, and his Federation
that he joined the organization himself.
Master Sattler
attained the rank of Oh Dan (5th) in 2007
under Kwang Jang Nim St. James. He is also on the
Board of Directors for the Atlantic-Pacific Tang Soo
Do Federation, serving as the Chair for the
“Ethics/Rules & Regulations Committee”. He continues
to carry on the traditional Tang Soo Do philosophy
by teaching it to others, as he has done for over 30
years at Rivera Tang Soo Do in Meriden, Connecticut.
The studio’s owner is Master Sattler’s longtime
friend and former student, Senior Master Antonio
Rivera Jr., who is also a member of the Federation.
Master Sattler works
for the State of Connecticut, Department of
Corrections. One of his other interests is drawing
and painting, and he currently provides much of the
promotional art for the Atlantic-Pacific Tang Soo Do
Federation. An accomplished artist, he has never
received any formal art training. It just comes
naturally to him. Master Sattler believes it is a
gift and like Tang Soo Do, has become an integral
part of his life.
