Master Russell
Boon started studying Tang Soo Do when he was
nine years old, with the United Kingdom Tang Soo
(Soo Bahk) Do Federation under Master David
Allerton.
In 2001 Master Boon went to live in Japan where
he trained at a K1 dojo in Minami-Urawa, Saitama
prefecture. Upon his return from Japan, he
started training and teaching under his father,
Master Eddie Boon, 4th Dan, at the Boon Dojang
based in Billingham, Cleveland in the United
Kingdom. Remaining independent from any large
Tang Soo Do organization they nevertheless teach
the original theory and philosophy of
Grandmaster Hwang Kee as well as incorporating
kickboxing and, kyushu-jitsu into the
traditional syllabus.
In 2008 Master Boon
established a Citizenship Through Martial
Arts program that he is running in
partnership with Cleveland Police, local
authorities and government bodies in deprived
areas of East Middlesbrough.
He regularly
contributes to Combat and Taekwondo &
Korean Martial Arts magazines and belongs to
the International Tang Soo Do - Martial Arts
Society governed by Master David Zacker.
