Tangsoodo Organization
Beach Training - 2011
by Master John
Correljé - 5th Dan
Tang Soo Do Chon Kyong, Netherlands
After
weeks of rainy weather, Sunday June 26 was a sunny
day. The morning started
chilly, a nice temperature for training. About 140
Tang Soo Do Ka’s had gathered in Katwijk.
After the competitors had lined-up, the greeting
ceremony and warming – up was conducted by Kyo Sa
Nim Maarten van de Spek. Sa Bum Nim Jan van der
Schee trained some of the basic techniques and
conditioning with the entire group, a feast for the
eye to see.
In the morning the Il Soo Sik Deh Ryun techniques
from the All Tangsoodo Organization where taught
between the dunes under guidance of the different
Kyo Sas and Sa Bums from the different schools.
At
12:00 it was time for a break.
The lunch was well taken care off as usual and there
was time to talk with each other.
After the break we went to the beach, the Dan
grades, Red belts and the youngest youth remained
between the dunes.
The youth did some games and the Dan grades did Ho
Sin Sul and trained with the Tonfa.
There were
various training sessions on the beach such as Ho
Sin Sul and Hyung applications.
Kyo Sa Nim van der Merwe gave a workout with the
Tonfa. The youth was longing for the wetness of the
sea.
After a good half hour, all the groups met at the
beach.
After
training for another hour the groups were combined
into one large group.
Following the group meditation facing the sea, the
various kick and punch series where done diligently.
Sa Bum Nim Bert van Lith teased them by not going
into the water. The kick
and punch session ended finally in the sea.

We can look back at a perfect, pleasant and
informative day with nice weather, yet waiting a
year until the next beach training.
But first the Amsterdam Tang Soo Do Event in
November
with Grandmaster Byrne and others, a must for the
serious Tang Soo Do practitioner.
With championships on Saturday and seminars on
Sunday.
Countries that have pledged to come are the USA,
England, Wales, Belgium, France and the Netherlands
of course.
