Over 40 Dan members and Chon
Dan Bo’s attended the Karate Center’s First
Annual Florida Black Belt Camp. The camp was
held at Gold Coast Christian Camp in Lake
Worth Florida and was hosted by Master Gary
Horner.
The camp began Friday May 2nd
with an orientation meeting, promotions,
dinner and Black Belt training class
conducted by Mr. Peter Elias, Mrs. Chris
Nairn, Dr. David Felker and Mrs. Michelle
Kelly. Master Kevin Case, Oh Dan, conducted
a separate training class for Masters and
Master Candidates.
Saturday work shops included;
Haedong Gumdo, a team building challenge
rope course, advanced forms, staff and
nunchaku, taught by Master Kevin Case,
Master Gary Horner, and Master Robert
Cosenza. After dinner we attended a
Leadership class followed by social time and
a camp fire.
Sunday we wrapped up the
event with some exciting demonstrations and
final words from Master Case, and Master
Horner, including announcements of our
future plans and upcoming events including
tournaments, karate camp (all students) and
next years Black Belt Camp.
Our goal was to provide
exciting, and valuable training for our Dan
members. The students worked hard, learned
about becoming a Black Belt and experienced
life long lessons in team work,
communication and perseverance. Although we
all left camp tired and sore, we all had a
great time and look forward to next years
camp.
The Karate Center will be
conducting our second annual Black Belt Camp
in May 2009.
